Googlism

by Scott Karp

Understanding Google’s strategy requires a different world view — let’s call it “Googlism”:

Conventional wisdom: Google Spreadsheet is a Microsoft Excel killer.

Googlist View
(Nick Carr): Google is going to live off of Microsoft apps like a leech, the same way it does with online content.

  1. I’m actually thinking that Google’s real goal is to turn software from a product to a service… and that’s not going to help any of us in the long term.
Imagine your data held hostage because your credit card expired. Or Google’s servers go down. Or any host of other potentials.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a MSFT fan, but I also don’t want to trade one behemoth for another… especially not one who has as much data about me as Google does.

Hmmm… I’m seeing a blog post coming on vs. continuing to expand on this comment ;)

    Cheers,
    Tamera
