Old-Media Fascist Talk
This cartoon was published October 8, 2000 — it boggles the mind.
Here’s another one…
Cartoons like this made Mathew Ingram wonder whether blogging has jumped the shark. With the whole PayPerPost mess its hard to argue that it hasn’t. I start to wonder whether media itself has jumped the sharp.
Incidentally, these are courtesy of cartoonist and 2.0 visionary D.C. Simpson — be sure to check out his Ozy and Millie site.

hehhe, cool! i had a similar one, lemme look it up
there we go, found it: http://www.eugen.ro/pidjin/2006/04/09/monument-me/
That’s cool that he gave you the reprint OK. He has been trying to get syndicated for years, and I don’t get why he’s not breaking through. Every little bit helps, I’m sure.
I’m not amused that PayPerPost has popped up, but neither am I shocked.
We need to remember that the absence of payola doesn’t guarantee accurate reporting. Lots of other reasons exist for slatned reporting, including enthusiastic naivete.
I wouldn’t get too upset about the prospect of anonymous bloggers being paid to turn their posts into advertisements. If a reader is prepared to take the advice of an anonymous individual they’ve never met and whose credibility is unestablishable, not just unestablished, what greater damage can be done to them if they accept similar advice from a paid stranger?
PayPerView threatens how we will perceive commerical and quasi-commercial sites, as well as those of the blogerati, but our credibility flags should already be waving when we read the average run-of-the-mill blog.
