Is it the media obsession or access (to the media/to the weapons?)
Believe me, the British media has just as deep an obsession with multiple murders - and with celebrity (infamy) But, so far, we haven't had the copycat effect.
Perhaps it's the availability of weaponry. Knife crime is a growing issue in the UK. Knives are easy to acquire. One man with a knife can't go on a spree. One man with a gun may be a different matter. Culture or availability?

There was a backlash against NBC and their self-interested broadcast of the Cho tapes -- but it centered around the hurt it added to the victim's families. While that is certainly significant, there doesn't seem to be an appreciation of the larger issue that media obsession with these murderers make the next incidence more likely.
